About PEAK

Today's media landscape in Sri Lanka is facing a crisis of credibility and accountability. As a result, many news outlets have lost their focus on the responsibility of being the fourth pillar of democracy - to provide unbiased, accurate, and reliable news to the public. Instead, they have taken their audience for granted, prioritising pure profit over their duty to inform and educate the public.
One of the biggest problems in the Sri Lankan media industry is the focus on cheap content and clickbait titles. Many news outlets prioritise driving traffic to their websites to increase ad revenue rather than providing valuable and informative content. This has led to sensationalist headlines and clickbait articles that do little to inform or educate the public.
In this environment, the public needs a reliable source of news and information. But unfortunately, many people are sceptical of the media and feel they cannot trust what they read or watch. This situation is dangerous for democracy, as an informed and engaged public is essential to a healthy democracy. In addition to the challenges faced by the media industry, many genuine journalists in Sri Lanka face their own set of difficulties. Despite their dedication to providing accurate and reliable news to the public, their work is often unrecognised and undervalued by mainstream media outlets.
Sri Lankan journalists are often underpaid and need more certainty about publishing their work. They work long hours, often in threatened and unsafe environments, to uncover stories and provide a voice to those who are often ignored or oppressed. Despite their dedication, many journalists still need to be given the recognition or compensation they deserve.
Even through these challenges, many journalists remain committed to their values and responsibility to the public. They continue to stand up for the truth, even in the face of adversity and are essential to the functioning of a healthy democracy.
We at Peak are committed to upholding the responsibility of the fourth pillar of democracy by providing truthful and accurate news coverage that spans from the regional to the national to the global. Unlike many other media outlets, we recognise genuine journalists' value and hard work, giving them better recognition and opportunities to be independent.
Through its dedication to genuine journalism, we aim to disrupt the current media industry that has taken its audience for granted and prioritised profit over truth. By challenging the status quo, Peak hopes to lead the way in rebuilding the public's trust in the media and creating a culture of accountability and responsibility among media outlets in Sri Lanka.
We believe that genuine journalism is essential to the functioning of a healthy democracy and strives to provide its readers with news coverage that is accurate, reliable, and informative. By giving better recognition and opportunities to journalists dedicated to their craft, we can provide a unique perspective on the issues that matter most to our readers.
